Holistic Approach
A multi-specialty provider organization in an integrated healthcare system was experiencing a period of rapid growth and change as a result of merger, integration, and hiring activities. The organization needed to re-examine its integration approach and key roles to ensure expectations of leaders and staff aligned to deliver superior, quality, highly coordinated care for patients.
DPT provided an experienced Program Management Advisor who started with our “First, we listen…” approach, by individually interviewing leaders and staff members in key roles. This uncovered the diverse perspectives and perceptions that were influencing expectations for the job models, business processes and associated performance factors. After integrating these perspectives into a work plan, we identified gaps, opportunities, solution options and recommendations. We were able to align the plan with several other initiatives within the organization pursuing similar or related goals as part of their work (such as process excellence, clinical continuing education, and acquisition project management).
We immediately saw the value of a comprehensive approach to job design, and forged relationships and routine communication channels with leaders of these related initiatives to enhance coordination. This mitigated the risk of unnecessary and costly duplication of effort due to poor communication practices so often associated with organizations “on fast forward.” Creating an environment where collaboration opportunities were made explicit also promoted a common vision and understanding around how best to align role expectations and further the exceptional patient experience.
